Al's soul companion for the travel to AX turned to be his best friend and hetrosexual lifemate Ian Smith. The two of them have been friends since kindergarden.
Ian and I arrived in california relitively early, making it to our hotel with two hours before the convention center was going to start giving us our badges so we can get in tomorrow.
Wisely we decided to go to the convention center early.
Along the way we spotted many an anime fan, identifiable by costumes (Why they wore them on the first day I know not) and shirts expressing their geekdom.
We arrived at the convention center and began wandering through their halls where booths for selling things were being set up. The sheer size of the hall itself is staggering and the amount of merchendise boggles the mind.
We found the line and sunk in spot about halfway through to prepair for a two hour and some change wait. During which I called and made visual contact with fanfiction writer/Al's LJ reader Trick. We set to meet for foodstuffs on saturday.
Getting our badges and things of swag Ian and Al returned to the hotel to cool off, the air is thick and wet in Anahime, as expected.
Rumors have it that man-faye may be in attendence and a slap on the bum would land a shirt, I must investigate said rumors (And ask manfaye before touching them)
While there are many normal looking people there are some true uber geeks, some I admire, some I dispise, but they come in all shapes and sizes. Tomorrow I shall update with photos.
The hotel has wireless internet access but only from the lobby, which worked out ok for Ian due to fatigue from not sleeping since yesterday.
sometime about 4 this morning Ian reminded me I forgot my anime pass at home and we had to drive back from his place, sneak in and get the badge from grans apartment, I almost left the state without my badge. *Sigh*
Table top gameing appears in our future late at night, as well as a few movies, a ramen eating contest, a ramune drinking contest, the gaia panel, and if I have anything to say about it we will watch some of the live action movies or T.V series that were made based on animes such as Cutey honey and GTO.
My costumes (which will be pictured) will be fairly simple the first two days, and elaborate the last two days (apparently the Expo lasts halfway into tuesday, so we need to find out when we leave and if I need to find a way to stash my suitcase.)
All and all so far no major foul ups, the flight, the shuttle, the rooms all went off without a hitch, this evening Mr. Smith and I shall explore the area for food and other assorted entertainments.
This is your Anime Expo victim/corrasondent Al signing out.
