Day four
The convention is kicking the asses of my companion and I, leaving us slow on updating the log, I shall summarize our experiences to this point.
Day one: My costume was supposed to be the cartoon me, complete with Dizzy.
We arrived at the expo center badges shining proudly and proceeded upstairs to the opening ceramonys. At said line we stood next to a pair of cosplayers, husband and wife rocking the Battle Angel Alita look. Seen here.
As we stood in line for about an hour Ian made well to take pictures of the cosplayers that passed us.
Afterwards we got in line to get into the merchants halls and spend our money,
the area was gigantic and I ended up spending at least 400 dollars there, dragging back my booty to our lair and leaveing myself with sore shoulders.
We returned to the convention center and I lost my badge so we had to go get a new one. Apparently badges won’t stay on their hooks. After said badge was bought we went to have dinner with longtime fan fiction writer friend and journal blogger Trick. It was nice to see him in flesh.
Returning to the expo after dinner Trick suggested we see the movie Train_man . The heroic tail of a sad shy jappanese otaku who saves a girl from a drunk on the train and tells a small group of dysfunctional chat roomers his story of falling for her. The chatters, A trio of army style anime nerds, a housewife, a salryman (who are married but we don’t know till later hardly ever see each other) a nurse who’s moarning her dead husband, and a shut in who’s cut himself off from society save for his rabbit. They help the otaku develop the courage he needs to try to become the womans boyfriend. It was kooky and fun story for underdogs and we loved it. There was however a fat man who I felt like wailing on due to his yelling things at the screen through the whole movie.
After that we watched the kamikazi girls, another live action based on a manga about a Lolita girl who meets a biker chick (Sterotypical jappanese biker chick that is) and the two of them develop a friendship as they help each other twords their goals. It was adorable, funny, and above all different. The humor and side jokes alone put it up there with Excel saga and FLCL.
We returned to our ratty hotel room with ramen from a local 7-11, broken and happy.
Day 2: We awoke later on day two, feeling we deserved the sleeping in. The day was mostly spent wandering, buying more things, and looking for the elusive man-faye. Our proof he was here is a business card of his and several eye witness accounts.
In the evening I was eagerly awaiting the Gaiaonline panel and decided to go sit in on The Anime News Network panel so that I may make sure to have a seat for the Gaia panel. After the ANN panel we were ejected from the hall and discovered the line for the gaia panel was full and the fire code would not allow for any further guests.
I was quiet pissed and ranted and raved for quiet a bit. We got a hot tip from some expoers who were mugged that manfaye was having a party in the Hilton. We wandered it‘s maze-like halls for at least an hour before returning to our own hotel in failure.. We spent the rest of the evening playing with our new toys and subsequently passing out due to fatigue.
Day three: We got an early start at 8 and for good reason, we were dead set on getting good seats for the first ever premere of the Full Metal Alchemist Movie. It was very awesome. I won’t give anything away but I will say watching an anime movie with Anime fans is fun. When something fun happens the whole crowd roars. We sigh together, laugh together and aw together.
A surprising number of signs today begging for glomps, hugs, money, pockey and just about anything else.
Our quest for man-faye was drying up, sorces running low and with little drive we were about to quit when we stumbled across some starving singers and a keyboard player who were singing theme songs for people in exchange for change. They informed us upon hearing of our quest that Man-faye had just been there and had signed their keyboard and light saber. Hot on the trail we shot off after him. The mood tense and heavy as we asked around. Everyone seemed to know where he had been and we fallowed with as much speed as our tired legs could muster.
Up three flights we finally caught up with our prey and I finally got to hug the sweaty wounded man-faye. We were told he had hurt his back so we didn’t spank him, this time.
Ah there’s always next year.
One more day where the only two goals I have is the live action GTO movie and the closeing ceramonys.
Edit Day three: Slept in, missed movie, spent most of day chilling, not much else to do today but wait for it to end. We spent all night playing RPGs with these nerdy adults at the hilton, which is unessacerally mazelike.
Almost done! *cheer* it's been a blast!
