The Doctor paused and looked back up the stairs, eyeing the Jedi in disdain. She wondered if he could read the emotion of her. "He's the answer to my hope, but not exactly what I wanted. Let's get back to the TARDIS." She snapped her fingers at the Jedi. "Hurry up."

Wayla said nothing as he followed last. He could read the girl's discontent as easily as a childrens book, but knew better than to retort. She does need his help, after all.
As they walked past the bar, Wayla took one last glance around the club. With mild surprise, he saw the criminal suspect he was there for in the first place, standing near the entrance and looking very lost.
He smiled. 'Looks like she's not getting her payoff.' He thought, 'I'll come back for her after I deal with her boss.'

**skipping ahead**
As they reached the TARDIS, the Doctor pushed Alex into the blue box, calling "Be inside in a tic, don't touch anything," before turning around and eyeing the new recruit.
"Now, what is the Jedi Order doing with Earth in the early twenty-first century?" She leaded back on the door, twirling her TARDIS key.

"I'm not surprised that you figured out my identity," said Wayla calmly. "Curious, but not surprised. I'm on a mission sent by the Hidden Jedi Council to remain on this planet as a 'representative' of sorts until I convince them that Earth is ready for the rest of the universe. In the meantime I tackle punitive to major crime rings around Earth. A 'vigilante', is what you might call me."
"Have you anymore questions? I would be surprised, since you know much."

"Just a warning. I don't like your kind. You've caused me almost as much trouble as Earth has over the years. You enlighten people and hand out power haphazardly and it blows up in your faces. You guys are never any good." The Doctor unlocked the TARDIS door. "You live up to that reputation, you'll be in a world of hurt. Now, do you have any questions?"

Wayla nodded, acknowledging her distaste. Even in his own galaxy, there were thousands of entire races who distrusted the Jedi for the same reasons. He wasn't upset then; he won't be upset over a girl, no matter how intelligent she was.
"Only what your intentions are. Why you're following this man, for one, and for what reason?"

"Simple." The Doctor leaned very close to Wayla's face. "I'm a Time Lord, kid." She grinned, her signature insane one, and walked inside her ship.

'Is she serious?'
Wayla could not deny admitting he was surprised to hear those words. Time Lords.... Time Lords....
'Of course,' Wayla thought. 'Time Lords. I've read about their kind in the Jedi Archives. A race of humanoids from the planet of Gallifrey, they are able to manipulate time and space, and were regarded as one of the most advanced civilizations in Ancient History.
'But they are an extinct race,' he countered. 'And their technology died with them. Unless this phone box is really...'
He let his eyes answer for him. As he walked inside, his gaze met the deep, rustic brown arches that surrounded the walls of the room. The eery green light from the central control reflected off of them, illuminating the room as if it were an organic being. He smiled, enlightened to believe that this was no trick.
"I understand your past behavior, Time Lord." said Wayla, turning to the girl near him. "Your outlook on theory and life are considered wise, even if it is not my preference of belief. Forgive me if I seem defensive of that in the future."

The Doctor waved a hand vaguely. "Don't worry about it. Trained to perceive Space-Time fields or not, it's to be expected that humans are a bunch of dolts." She jumped up to the console. "So, tell me our destination, Mr. Knight."

The boy nodded, coming back to the situation at hand. "Before I came here, I planted a tracking device on your man's vehicle. I checked my datapad as we were leaving, and he's not heading off-planet. Since he knows of our intention, he will change his plans last-minute in order to throw us off his trail. In a few short minutes he'll arrive in an area of abandoned warehouses in the southern industrial area of Tokyo where he conducts most of his business in the Eastern Pacific area.
"I do not know which building he will be in, exactly, so we'll have to split up once we reach there. It's a lot of ground to cover, but he shouldn't be much trouble to find."

"Not that we can do anything about it. We can't confront him until..." the Doctor consulted her travel logs, "Summer, 2006." She looked back at Wayla. "Will your transmitter's battery still be running in that year?"

Wayla raised an eyebrow. "2006? Why so long?"

"Avoiding temporal paradoxes. It was 2006 when Alex jumped into the TARDIS. And the Pirate King was still alive then. Messing with the guy directly at any point in time before Alex joined up would confuse the universe and make it very unhappy." The Doctor explained rapidly. "So, will the batteries hold?"

"It should last until my datapad is damaged or destroyed. Otherwise it'll function for at least half a century." Wayla said confidently, showing the pocket where his small datapad was held

"Fantastic." The Doctor replied, running animately around the TARDIS, flipping switches, spinning wheels, and hitting the console with a small hammer. The ship shook violently as she flew through the Time Vortex.
"Let's hope I don't screw it up, eh?" The Doctor yelled over the noise. "My last companion, Rose- made an awful impression on her. Took her to see the destruction of Earth and to fight ghostly aliens with Charles Dickens. We dropped off back home to grab her stuff after and I botched the time set- got her there twelve months later instead of twelve hours. Her mum slapped me so hard." The Doctor laughed. "I was a man-shaped being back then, so Rose's mum assumed I eloped with her or something. Oh, good times. I miss that lot."
